Apple Maps draws some flak !!

iOS 6 for Apple Inc’s iPad, iPhone and iPod touch, went live on 19th September. With it debuted one of its prime features, the new Apple Maps. Apple had earlier ditched Google Maps as its primary maps app. Apple has been developing the mapping solution with TomTom for quite sometime and includes features like the Flyover for a 3d view with real-pictures for locations.

But certainly it has not been a smooth sail as, Apple Maps has come under a lot of fire from customers all over the world for its errant behavior. Many users have reported of experiencing problems like incorrect references and distorted images with app. It being one of the most read news on most tech sites. The Tumblr site is collecting user-submitted images that elucidate Apple’s lack of quality control over the images in the app. Here are some of the pics

Even I got a chance to play around with Maps on iPad, the results were very disappointing. It showed my city’s name in the wrong, absolutely no local data. Notably, Apple has not made available voice navigation and Flyover for India.

Apple has since sent out an official comment, but stops short of apologizing for the warped images and data mistakes found in iOS 6 Maps. The statement, sent to AllThingsD.com, says: ” We are excited to offer this service with innovative new features like Flyover, turn by turn navigation, and Siri integration. We launched this new map service knowing it is a major initiative and that we are just getting started with it. Maps is a cloud-based solution and the more people use it, the better it will get. We appreciate all of the customer feedback and are working hard to make the customer experience even better ”

This comes before the Maps app by Apple gets any better, I know it will. But this clearly comes to the fore that it is still in the nascent stage and has been rushed hastily. Otherwise, Apple would not have had much to speak for iOS 6.
