In the US, the top five smartphone manufacturers are Apple, Samsung, HTC, Motorola and LG, in that particular order. Apple topped the list last year as well and they have had a good start this year increasing the lead from Samsung. Samsung also showed growth but not as quickly.
ComScore has released the latest data, which as usual surveyed over 30,000 mobile subscribers in the US. The analytics firm says 129.4 million Americans owned smartphones (55 percent mobile market penetration) in January, up 7 percent since October.
There is still a lot of action this month with Samsung planning to announce the Galaxy S IV on March 14th. HTC has been taking a fall for quite some time now and they really need to figure things out. Of course, there nothing to say about Motorola.
LG seemed to have pulled up from last year thanks to the Nexus 4 but can it continue the trend is another story altogether.
Coming to operating systems or mobile platforms, Google is still first courtesy of Android, Apple is second with iOS, but the latter is gaining on the former. The top five are Google, iOS, BlackBerry, Microsoft Windows, and Symbian.
Blackberry still continues to be a loser month over month and it is definitely tough times again for them.
