Cyber Prediction: ´More and more enterprises will try to build Defensible Cyberspaces to do digital business´

In 2020, enterprises increased their investments in automation, data and analytics with a focus on delivering business outcomes. With accentuated vulnerability due to remote working, enterprises increased focus on cybersecurity and protection of their data and assets.

Agnidipta Sarkar, Director of Cybersecurity at CMS IT Services spoke to The Tech Panda about how a remote culture in 2020 will accelerate the adoption of cybersecurity.

2021 will test the whole concept of the ´new normal´ in cybersecurity that some enterprises would use to their benefit

“The world is still grappling with the effects of COVID-19 on business operations. More and more business leaders are having to grudgingly allow more and more remote users to access corporate information assets,” he says.

“Attackers, on the other hand, have upped the ante. 2021 will test the whole concept of the ´new normal´ in cybersecurity that some enterprises would use to their benefit. The change will be the new constant and more and more enterprises will try to build Defensible Cyberspaces to do digital business,” he predicts.

Defensive Strategies for 2021

Sarkar predicts an increase in the adoption of secure desktops on the Cloud.

“Secure Desktops will bring in features to block out the ability for users to switch applications. This will help enterprises achieve BYOD policies faster,” he says.

He also predicts an increase in endpoint protection.

Predictive compliance shall be the new norm which will help security leaders determine and prevent non-conformities thus creating less vulnerable enterprise computing

“Zero Trust Architecture models will ensure integrated endpoint clients that can handle multi-factor authentication, identity provisioning, and endpoint detection and response into a single access management tool,” he says.

“And until that happens there would be increased use of automation in management and governance of endpoint security. Predictive compliance shall be the new norm which will help security leaders determine and prevent non-conformities thus creating less vulnerable enterprise computing,” he adds.

Offensive Strategies for 2021

Enterprises will seek and use cybersecurity programs to build resilience so that they can determine newer ways of building business. Sarkar says that digital transformation projects will see an upswing as enterprises leverage the abilities to protect, detect, and respond to newer business models.

As the brouhaha dies down, enterprises will build newer, faster and secure computing environments to aggressively gain business benefits

“Enterprises will seek higher data protection by the way of having the ability to trace where structured and unstructured data is going as they use analytics, Machine Learning, and AI models to leverage value from the data they collect,” he says.

“As the brouhaha dies down, enterprises will build newer, faster and secure computing environments to aggressively gain business benefits,” he further predicts.

With hybrid working models likely to stay, enterprises have been putting together plans to help employees best cope and deliver results in this new world order. From trainings to performance and change management, they have been planning to deliver better productivity and help employees adapt to a new workplace culture in the coming year.
