Choosing a College just got EASIER – GetMyUni

The Product

Having pre-launched in December’14, the website has already covered 800+ colleges including (IITs and IIMs) and have more than 14,000 student written

reviews. With over 60K page views only in the pre-launch phase, the site does look promising as it promises to give the students a portal where they can get complete first-hand information about the colleges of their interest.

Apart from testimonials, GetMyUni has a ‘Data Insights’ section, which provides data driven analysis about cut-offs, placements, internships, expenses, bank loans and even scholarships. To give you an idea about how the insights look like, the picture below will give you a glimpse and for more information please check the website.

This site also has a new section called Case Competitions, where company sponsored case studies are floated and spread the word throughout our database of colleges and students across India. The companies get cost optimal solutions, potential interns and even employees. The colleges and student in return get an idea about the industry expectations, exposure, cash prizes, internships, job opportunities as well as strong campus branding. Several competitions have already been rolled out including the likes of BlaBlaCar, which gives an opportunity to intern with them along with a fully paid trip to Paris!

Also, the portal would be incomplete if it didn’t give first hand information and insights about colleges abroad. One can still travel and check out the colleges in India, but studying abroad can be challenging without the perfect information on their offerings. GetMyUni have already and are also in the process of associating themselves with Embassies of Countries like France & New Zealand, in order to make it more convenient for Indian students to make informed decisions of the colleges abroad. It is indeed a very important segment with a huge gap and I believe that GetMyUni can fill that vacuum.

However, I still have one concern about the fairness of the reviews. It is quite possible that students – current or already graduated may be biased and thus may not be able to provide impartial view. Additionally, I would like to express my concern about the ratings given by different students. Students may have the same level of satisfaction yet may give different ratings for the same. But, am sure the team will deal with it and make it more foolproof.

The Future

Future looks promising as the team plans to scale up and cover more than 5-6K Indian Engineering and MBA colleges in India. The team also has plans to expand and cover overseas destination

As the co-founder Upneet Grover puts it, “We want to continue working on the product and keep focusing on getting quality student reviews because we understand that user generated content is the future and our big differentiator from the existing data aggregating players in the market.”
