Google Nexus 7 Gets 720p HD Video Recording With a Simple Hack [Video]

Say what you want about 7-inch tablets being too small to compete with Apple’s iPad, but Google’s Nexus 7 is the best 7-inch tablet money can buy right now. That said, the fact that the tablet’s 1.3-megapixel front-facing camera only records in VGA (640 x 480 resolution) is a huge disappointment.

XDA Developers member “hillbeast” has tried to remedy this by releasing a how-to guide for tweaking the camera so it can record video in a more-acceptable 1280 x 720 resolution. Intrepid tinkerers should note that they’ll need to root their Nexus 7 before hillbeast’s modified code can be injected, so the camera upgrade isn’t without its risks. Video showing a comparison between the original and modified cameras are posted below.
