Indian eSports achievements soar: From BGMI resurgence to victorious League of Legends & Pokemon UNITE Teams

June has been an eventful month for the Indian esports scene, with several noteworthy achievements and collaborations taking place.

The Central & South Asia seeding event

The Indian League of Legends team displayed exceptional skills during the Central and South Asia seeding event, securing noteworthy victories against Sri Lanka, Kazakhstan, and Kyrgyzstan. These triumphs resulted in favourable seeding for the team at the 19th Asian Games in Hangzhou, China, enhancing their chances of success on a larger international stage.

Return of BGMI

The resurgence of Battlegrounds Mobile India (BGMI) in the esports industry has also prompted significant collaborations. TECNO Mobile, a prominent smartphone brand, partnered with Skyesports as the title sponsor for the Skyesports Champions Series (SCS), capitalizing on the game’s popularity and its potential for esports growth.

In a significant move, Gods Reign, an Indian pro gaming and entertainment company headquartered in Bangalore, unveiled its elite roster for BGMI, featuring players acquired from the renowned American esports organization TSM (Team Solo Mid). The acquisition highlights the increasing prominence of Indian esports teams and their ability to attract top talent from around the world.

Pokemon UNITE World Championships 2023

Another noteworthy development came in June, when S8UL, a premier esports organization in India, emerged victorious in the highly competitive Indian qualifiers for the Pokemon UNITE World Championships 2023. Delivering remarkable performances against renowned esports outfits, S8UL secured a coveted spot in the global finals, further cementing their reputation in the esports community.

Enigma Gaming’s Founder and CEO, Aryaman Wasan, said, “Counter-Strike has been a pioneer for the global esports industry. Unfortunately, it wasn’t able to grow in India in the same manner because of the lack of development of esports in the country over the past two decades. Now, with the rapid emergence of esports in India over the past three years, we feel it’s the right time to invest in the game. With a new version coming up and the long-term vision of the Skyesports Masters, we are here to support Counter-Strike for the years to come.”

Also, 7Sea Esports, an India-based multi-dimensional entertainment brand, strengthened its esports portfolio by entering Counter-Strike: Global Offensive (CSGO). The team signed a five-man roster set to be one of the eight franchised teams competing for the Rs. 2 Crore Prize Pool at the Skyesports Masters 2023.
