“So Close You Can Almost Touch It.” The Ubuntu homepage displays a large teaser which says those words hinting at an all new, really cool version to be launched in a few hours from now.
We are guessing that the pre-CES announcement may focus on mobile, with a touch-friendly interface possibly in the works. Towards the end of 2012, Canonical founder Mark Shuttleworth clued readers on the company’s plans to bring the OS to mobile devices, including smartphones and tablets, as part of a strategy to familiarize desktop users with the Linux-based operating system.
Today’s announcement might have something to do with Shuttleworth’s earlier statement. At the same time, we feel there is definitely much more. Ubuntu 14.04 LTS is not set to launch until April 2014 at the earliest.
We have a few more hours before Ubuntu’s mystery is unveiled, so tune your browser to the Ubuntu Homepage and join us in the countdown.
